VISIONS OF INTERIORITY
RAMESHWAR BROOTA’S ONLINE RETROSPECTIVE CURATED BY KNMA

Visions of Interiority
Rameshwar Broota’s Online Retrospective curated by KNMA

With a lockdown that has introduced us to social distancing and other safety protocols, a lot that was on our schedule has taken a backseat. Kiran Nadar Museum’s immediate programs and activities have been postponed or rescheduled. But this has rekindled the museum’s interest in its own archives surrounding their exhibitions history. They have made one of their early exhibitions accessible to a global audience by curating virtual experiences of their past retrospective of Rameshwar Broota.

With the onslaught of such trying times, when fear of death has been gripped with pain and helplessness, the care for one’s own body has gained much importance. With this thought KNMA has digitised one of its earlier retrospective exhibitions of Rameshwar Broota ‘Visions of Interiority’. Broota brings the viewer’s attention to the predicament of the human body. At this moment this is one of the few universal feelings that the world has been swept by.

The show is more than just a revival of a past exhibition. It brings fresh resources for the global viewer as it presents visuals, an abbreviated narrative and text insertions that document many experiences of the human body with natural and urban environments. The show has brought together Broota’s iconic paintings, his early experimental films, his interviews and audios (where he talks about his technique), press clippings and reviews of his solo exhibitions and his retrospective organised by KNMA in October 2014.
